The Year of Enterprise Collaboration; Microsoft’s Big Hits & Misses; The Mayans Were Right: IE10 Is Good Now

SharePoint Daily LogoI’d like to thank you all for following SharePoint Daily for another year. Today celebrates two things for me. The obvious is the end of the year. In the spirit of the new year I am going to take a few days off to rest and recharge and hope you are all able to do the same. The second is that (if my math is correct) today marks 1,000 posts to SharePoint Daily. I honestly never thought Daily would last that long or build the extremely loyal following that it has. I appreciate all the words of wisdom, suggestions, and emails of concern when I take an unannounced break. I couldn’t have done it without. you. I’ll see you in January. Happy Holidays.  -  Dooley

2012 – 2013: The Year(s) of Enterprise Collaboration (CMSWire)
As we prepare to close the books on 2012, I’ve been thinking about what the past 12 months have meant for our industry. It’s been an exciting year — one in which the practice of enterprise collaboration has begun to grow into maturity. If it were up to me, 2012 would be known as the year of enterprise collaboration. And so would 2013. We’re a long way from realizing the potential of enterprise collaboration, but I think the coming year will bring some impressive advancements. Here are a few of my hopes for what we’ll see in 2013: Continue reading this entry »

You Think You Use SharePoint But You Really Don’t (TechRepublic)
Thousands of organizations have implemented SharePoint but fail to exploit the most obvious of SharePoint’s many benefits. Here are some suggestions for a SharePoint roadmap that can succeed. You see it all around you, good SharePoint gone bad. The number of SharePoint deployments in the world today has six digits in it, and four-fifths of them suck. That’s a subjective observation, of course; many who deploy SharePoint (especially the license-free version) don’t have very high ambitions. The irony is, they could aim much higher, and get a lot more out of their deployment without upgrading to the more expensive version. Continue reading this entry »

Your SharePoint Records Governance Plan & ISO 15489: Disaster Preparation & Recovery (CMSWire)
ISO 15489 barely mentions disaster preparation and recovery outright. In fact, the most extensive statement on this topic in ISO 15489 appears in the Technical Report (Part Two): “Risk management also involves development of a disaster recovery plan that defines an organized and prioritized response to the disaster, planning for the continuance of regular business operations during the disaster and making appropriate plans for recovery after the disaster.” Continue reading this entry »

SharePoint 2010 Lists (Windows IT Pro)
While Santa Claus may be checking his list twice right about now, I spent some time last week building an application based on SharePoint lists on SharePoint 2010.  It was a great experience in the new, value-laden functionality of SP2010, and I’d like to share the take-aways with you. Before I do that, I’d also like to ask a question of you, my readers.  SharePoint 2010 can be downloaded from Microsoft now, and can be installed, so you can try it out in your enterprise.  But I know the reality for some of you might be that you don’t have time or hardware to do so. The Grill: Microsoft’s Chris Capossela on Google, Twitter and that Blue Screen of Death (Computer World)
Chris Capossela’s career is a throwback, just like Dom’s, the Italian restaurant in Boston’s North End his parents ran for 45 years. Capossela has been at Microsoft ever since graduating 18 years ago, working his way up from being Bill Gates’ speechwriter to head of the Microsoft Project business, to his current role running marketing for some of Microsoft’s most lucrative products: Office, SharePoint, Exchange, as well as their new hosted equivalents. He talked to Computerworld about how his family background prepared him for Microsoft, how Microsoft plans to beat Google Apps, and how it is adding Twitter-like features to Office. Microsoft Courier Video LEAKED: Watch Touchscreen Tablet Demonstrated (Video) (Mashable)
We’ve waxed poetic about Apple’s mythical Tablet recently (and even seen some more evidence to support it). But Microsoft, too, has a rather attractive looking tablet-like device in the speculative stages as well: the Courier. Now, a leaked video of the Courier’s user interface sheds more light on some of the design aesthetic behind this still unconfirmed device that appears to be part tablet and part digital planner, with a dual-screen hinged design and pen and finger controls.
