SharePoint Ecosystem Evolves as Next Release Looms (LTN)
A recent rush of add-on products for Microsoft SharePoint may benefit law firms and legal departments, even as a whole new version of SharePoint itself is fast approaching. SharePoint, born in 2001, is a web content platform that allows collaboration in a variety of ways. Its current version is SharePoint 2010, released in May that year. Customers will continue to need aftermarket support for it, especially in the slow-moving realm of legal technology adoption, long after SharePoint 2013 rolls out in the near future.

Dispersed Organizations Test Mettle of SharePoint 2010 Infrastructure (SearchContentManagement)
As SharePoint 2010 continues to grow in popularity among larger organizations, the collaboration platform is likewise being used by an increasing number of geographically dispersed companies that see it as a tool to keep far-flung employees on the same page. Because of SharePoint’s architecture, however, such implementations can add new administrative burdens whether you’re trying to keep workers across North America or around the world connected and communicating with one another.

ECM is Dead (AIIM)
When attending a show like Info360, I hope to take away a few nuggets that make me reconsider the world I work in. The keynotes and sessions I attended covered a lot of ground, but here are three things that have kept my head spinning. I have to apologize to the people who made these remarks. I took notes, but names and comments are a little disjointed.

Lawmakers Urge W3C to Support Default ‘Do Not Track’ Setting for Windows 8 (InfoSecurity)
Reps. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) and Joe Barton (R-Texas), co-chairmen of the Congressional Bi-Partisan Privacy Caucus, are asking the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to support a default Do Not Track (DNT) feature for Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8. In a letter to the W3C Tracking Protection Working Group, the lawmakers urged the body “to make protection of consumer privacy a priority and support Microsoft’s announcement by endorsing a default Do Not Track setting.”

Scratching the Surface: When is a Tablet Not a Tablet? (Reuters)
What’s in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet. Microsoft’s huge announcement Monday that it was going into the consumer computer business is a turning point for the Redmond giant – a real gloves-off, damn-the-torpedoes moment. It’s also perhaps a grudging nod to Apple and Steve Jobs’ view that hardware and software need to develop together to get it right. Until now Microsoft has ceded hardware issues to other companies – Dell, HP, Acer, Samsung, etc. Now it will compete with them.

Windows Phone 8 Features, Release Dates and More (CNET)
Feast your eyes on Windows Phone 8. Microsoft’s next generation of mobile phone software has a new-look home screen and loads of new features. As well as a new look, Windows Phone 8 will bring with it new dual-core, high-definition phones with NFC, speech control and loads of new apps. But where does all this leave today’s phones?

SharePoint Scenarios Defined (Brendon Schwartz Collaborating on SharePoint)
What is a scenario: A scenario is the set of features used in a solution that provide the set of requirements to fulfill needs. The use of the word scenario is used here to define a common set of characteristics in those solutions that can be grouped together. Every solution would map directly to a single scenario or be a combination of scenarios.

SharePoint Performance Testing–Bits and Bobs (T3chnicalLead)
It’s been a while since I posted (this feels like a confession) and for that I’m sorry.  In-between the NBA finals, my new job and all and all, things have been radical so unfortunately my beloved blog has taken a little bit of a back seat. “TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!!!” That quote is somewhat relevant in my head as I’m refocusing on getting articles on bi-monthly or at least every 3 weeks.  Enough of the demotivational, let’s get into this latest article.

SharePoint Gradual Site Collection Deletion (ITPro)
I had a mission to achieve overnight; move 28 site collections into a new managed path, as well as rename the 28 associated content databases. Pretty straightforward to do, and to script in advance to run in stages:
