SharePoint Deployment: The Final Chapter (ZDNet)
Microsoft likes to imply that you can have SharePoint up and running in an afternoon. You can’t. If you try, you’ll probably manage it, but you’ll be starting down a path from which it will become ever more difficult to return to the beginning and get it right. To get where we are now, we have been on a huge learning curve. It has taken around eight months of hard work, but I’m convinced it was the right thing to do, and the work will stand us in good stead as the project progresses.

Microsoft Sees ‘Rebirth’ with New Windows 8 System (Yahoo!)
Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 series — featuring an upgraded cloud computing service — marks a “rebirth” of its operating systems, chief executive Steve Ballmer said on Tuesday. Will Today’s Coders Embrace Microsoft’s Cloud? (Wired)
With word that Microsoft is going after Amazon with a big cloud move the first week of June, the question on this cloud watcher’s mind is: Even if Microsoft’s Windows Azure cloud goes, as it has recently teased to analysts, big on infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), supports Linux (as is expected to be the big deal about the expected news on June 7), Java and everything else — and even if it is cost competitive with Amazon’s cloud, which is also wooing Windows developers — will the Ruby on Rails kids get on board the 800-pound gorilla of software’s train? Why would they (given Amazon)? Is it really more of a perception problem, as Wired Enterprise’s Cade Metz wrote recently?

Windows Phone Outsells Apple: In China (Forbes)
This is perhaps slightly less interesting news than it seems: Windows based phones are outselling Apple‘s iOS based phones in China only two months after their release. The reason this is less interesting than it might at first seem is because there are technical issues around Apple’s ability to work with one of the major networks.

SharePoint and Serious Games (Symon Garfield)
I am a management consultant, an MBA with a background  in software engineering, business analysis, and project management.  All very serious, left brained stuff.  But over the past 12 months I’ve become increasingly interested in developing right-brained skills and knowledge such as  visual meetings, user centered-design, and serious games.  Last week as part of my quest to explore the right side of my brain I attended the Innovation Games ® training course in London and a whole new world opened before me.
