Is SharePoint 2010 a Compliant Records Solution? (IDM)
Microsoft SharePoint has changed the game on traditional Enterprise Content Management (ECM) vendors. Whilst this might now be old news for many in the ECM industry, what may be more surprising is just how many organisations are already using SharePoint 2007 for records management purposes and the huge number of organisations who have expressed their intention to use SharePoint 2010. This is in spite of a considerable section of the Records Management industry expressing concerns that SharePoint 2007 is not compliant with ISO 15489. Continue reading this entry »

Microsoft offers no shortage of options for developing so-called “forms over data” applications. Whether using data-binding technologies in the Microsoft .NET Framework, the Data Sources Window and its drag-and-drop capabilities in Windows Forms, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Silverlight, or ASP.NET Dynamic Data, Microsoft has got you covered. PerformancePoint Services in SharePoint 2010 (SQL Server Magazine)
There used to be a product called Microsoft Office Business Scorecard Manager. It had some compelling monitoring and analytic capabilities. As a successor to that product, Microsoft released a product called Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server in November 2007. PerformancePoint Server 2007 included monitoring and analytic features, such as dashboards, scorecards, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), reports, filters, and strategy maps, which are delivered via a monitoring server. There were primarily two client user interfaces to the monitoring server, namely the Dashboard Designer and various SharePoint Web Parts. The Dashboard Designer was a thick client application downloaded from the monitoring server, which allowed power users to do the following: Continue reading this entry »

SharePoint is a Hit for Microsoft but Still Clunky for IT (SearchWinIT)
For Microsoft, SharePoint has by many estimates been a runaway success, but for many IT pros and business users here this week, the enterprise collaboration software is no game changer. In fact, in some cases it can be an expensive boondoggle. Everyone agrees that SharePoint is here to stay. Some IT experts say it’s quickly becoming the de facto collaboration platform not just in Windows shops but also at companies that may not traditionally consider Microsoft platforms — say, those with a large population of Unix and Linux machines. Office 2010 is in the Stores. Yawn. (ComputerWorld)
Am I the only who finds Forrester analyst JP Gowdner’s blog proclamation that “Office 2010, Microsoft’s latest release, will continue to succeed with consumers” and “In terms of usage and penetration, Google Docs remains a failure” on the eve of Office 2010′s arrival to retails stores be a little… suspicious? Could it have anything to do with Microsoft’s just launched $80 million Office 2010 ad campaign? Gowdner, who covers the consumer market and not the business market, maintains that Microsoft Office 2010 is going to stay on top because:”The browser-based experience remains limited;” “Consumers have a deep, longstanding relationship with Office; and “Local computing power is plentiful and cheap.” Continue reading this entry »
