Microsoft Planning BPOS Changes in March (Redmond Channel Partner)
Microsoft described some progress behind its business productivity online suite (BPOS) offerings on Thursday. The company launched its BPOS suite of online services worldwide in April and currently has more than two million paid seats, according to Kayvaan Ghassemieh, a senior technical product manager for Microsoft Online Services.
The Complete Guide to Office 2010 (PC Pro)
Windows 7 may have hogged the limelight in 2009, but this is the year for the other big-hitter in Microsoft’s portfolio: Office 2010. This release brings a wealth of new features to the suite, including the debut of the Office Web Apps, the ribbon interface in Outlook and the Office-wide Backstage view. But which of these features will change the way you work, and which are duds? Over the course of this feature, you’ll find out.
Microsoft Ending Support for Older Products (PC Magazine)
In the coming months Microsoft will be ending support—including security updates—for a number of important products. If you’ve avoided updating so far, you might want to get moving.
Microsoft Wins Windows XP Downgrade Lawsuit (Computerworld)
A federal judge has dismissed a year-old lawsuit against Microsoft over alleged antitrust violations for the “downgrade” rules it set for Windows Vista and XP. The order issued Monday by U.S. District Court Judge Marsha Pechman put an end to the lawsuit filed by Emma Alvarado in February 2009. In her original complaint, the Los Angeles resident accused Microsoft of coercing computer makers into forcing consumers who wanted to run Windows XP to first buy Vista, or later, Windows 7, before they were allowed to downgrade to XP.
Microsoft’s Foiling of Botnet Gets Mixed Response (BBC News)
The firm persuaded a US judge to issue a court order to cripple 277 internet domains used by the Waledac botnet. Botnets are usually armies of hijacked Windows PCs that send spam or malware. “We aim to be more proactive in going after botnets to help protect the internet,” said Richard Boscovich, the head of Microsoft’s digital crime unit.
Adobe Flash 10.1 Not Coming to Windows Mobile 6.5 (Erictric)
It seems like Adobe will not be releasing Flash 10.1 for Windows Mobile 6.5 devices in the future. Instead, the company will wait until Windows Phone 7 is released later this year. That means that the only Windows Mobile 6.5-powered smartphone to get Flash 10.1 might be the HTC HD2, which is said to be upgraded to Windows Phone 7 once it’s released.
Browser Wars: The Sequel (BusinessWeek)
For the first time in years, energy and resources are being poured into browsers, the ubiquitous programs for accessing content on the Web. Credit for this trend—a boon to consumers—goes to two parties. The first is Google (GOOG), whose big plans for the Chrome browser have shaken Microsoft out of its competitive torpor and forced the software giant to pay fresh attention to its own browser, Internet Explorer. Microsoft all but ceased efforts to enhance IE after it triumphed in the last browser war, sending Netscape to its doom. Now it’s back in gear.

SharePoint 2010 List View Blog Series: Part 3 – List View Architecture (Microsoft SharePoint Team Blog)
Hi all. This is Greg Chan, Program Manager on the SharePoint team, for the third part in this List View series. In this post I’m excited to have one of the key architects of the new XSLT List View Web Part (XLV) talk more about its architecture. Here is what he has to say: Hi! I’m Eric Andeen, a developer on the SharePoint team. I’m going to describe in a little more detail how the XSLT List View Web Part (XLV) works, and how that affects people building and using SharePoint sites. List View XML and minimal markup: As Greg mentioned in Part I, the XLV is the new list view technology in SharePoint 2010, replacing the List View Web Part (LVWP). Since the XLV is the replacement for the LVWP, it needs to do all the same things, as well as adding new capabilities. The best place to start this discussion is with some of the things that haven’t changed.
Deploying BCS Simple Solutions (Microsoft Business Connectivity Services Team Blog)
Previous posts have mentioned how to represent business data as external content types, creating external lists out of these external content types, and how to eventually make this business data available offline in Office applications like Outlook and SharePoint Workspace. The posts showed that this data is taken offline in form of a BCS simple solution which the user then installs on the client machine. In this post I will talk a little bit more on the nature of this BCS solution and point out some information that is important to know to ensure that you have a seamless experience deploying simple solutions.
Getting SharePoint 2010 Deployment Right (The House M.D. of SharePoint)
Thanks to everyone who attended the webcast today on SharePoint 2010 Deployment. I’m sorry I went a “bit” over on time (I thought I was on time) and didn’t get a chance to answer your questions live. Instead, I’m posting them here for your future reference. Please make sure to register for the next webcast where my boss, Doug Davis, and I will discuss development improvements in SharePoint 2010. You can register at this address:
Configure Single Sign On to Use with Data View Web Part (SharePoint eLearning)
If you have worked with the XSLT Data View web part before, you know how much power it has. You can point to virtually any repository of data (web services, databases, xml files, SharePoint lists and libraries etc) and bring it into SharePoint. The data gets retrieved as standard XML and you can modify it to look however you like using SharePoint Designer 2007 without having to do any coding whatsoever! Here is a snapshot of a Data View web part showing information from a database table.
