Microsoft officially opened its Windows Marketplace for Mobile application store to software developers on Monday as the giant software maker moves to catch up to the success of Apple’s iPhone App Store. Microsoft is now accepting submissions of mobile phone software applications from registered developers in 29 countries and is offering prizes for the most popular applications as judged by downloads, revenue, usefulness and more, said Todd Brix, leader of Windows Marketplace for Mobile at Microsoft, in a blog posting.
Microsoft Forges 3 New Security Tools (Tech News World)
Organized crime, disorganized crime, petty theft, fraud — the Web has it all, and combating it requires and ever-evolving set of tools. Microsoft offered some details on three new security projects at the Black Hat security conference. It also unveiled the progress it’s made with some of the projects it announced at last year’s event.
MS Will Sandbox, Not Patch, Office 2010 Vulnerabilities (Info Packets)
Microsoft has a reputation for rarely admitting or accepting defeat in any market. But the company is now waving the white flag of surrender after admitting that they can no longer keep up with hackers when discovering file format bugs in time to stop them from exploitation.

Microsoft late Friday said it would issue two security bulletins on Tuesday, July 28, outside of its regular monthly patch cycle. The company typically releases “out-of-band” bulletins to address vulnerabilities that demand immediate attention.
Microsoft Windows 7: Getting More Bullish (Business Week)
On the day Microsoft unveiled the next version of its Office suite of productivity programs, company executives were hoping they could also generate buzz for the next version of the Windows operating system. During a July 13 keynote, Windows marketing chief Bill Veghte noted that companies running Windows 7 include BMW, T-Mobile, and Del Monte Foods and that Microsoft has had to turn away others that wanted to become early testers. He also outlined discounts for corporate customers and marketing programs for the thousands of IT companies that resell and install Windows on its behalf.

Bullet Proof Ways to Increase End User Buy-in: Rock the Rollout! (End User SharePoint)
When I first saw the video that I’m linking to below, I almost jumped out of my chair, I was so excited. These people know how to do a rollout. After watching, think about what it took to pull this off and you’ll see it is very similar to trying to get End User buy-in for your project. Look at the people’s faces right before everything starts. Watch closely as they figure out… “Oh, oh. This isn’t going to be normal!” Then watch as the enthusiasm and the heartfelt performances of the presenters win EVERYONE over, even someone you wouldn’t expect.
Breakfast with Dr. Wicked of SharePoint (Part 2) (Meet Dux)
Here’s the second half of my breakfast with Paul Culmsee. Make sure you watch Part 1 if you haven’t. Adoption Tip 1 of 7: Use SharePoint’s Flexibility for Success (End User SharePoint)
SharePoint’s flexibility is both its greatest strength and its greatest weakness. The capabilities of SharePoint far exceed those that user communities are accustomed to receiving in a software solution. Given this, when they are first exposed to these capabilities your users may feel intimidated by SharePoint’s complexity and frustrated by its menus and cryptic options.
